ARTEK RECORDINGS CD21: Dohnányi, Penderecki, Fine, Beethoven String Trios
"Roberto Diaz is best known as the Philadelphia Orchestra's principal violist, and he moonlights with the Diaz Trio along with violinist Andrés Cardenes and his cellist brother Andres Diaz, and you wonder where the group finds the rehearsal time to get this good. Interpretations couldn't be more alert, taut and gripping; intonation is impeccable; and repertoire choices are a revelation. Though none of the pieces here look very promising (even the Beethoven is early period stuff), the trio makes everything sound like first-rate music, especially the Dohnanyi. Recorded at the Curtis Institute's Field Concert Hall, the sound is immediate and natural."
